Feeling Safe, Being Smart
A Personal Safety and Self Defence Clinic for Seniors
What Is the Feeling Safe, Being Smart Clinic About?
Feeling Safe, Being Smart is a 1-hour personal
safety and self defence clinic for older adults. Like our
other self defence workshops, you will explore some key mental
and physical tools to help you detect, avoid and escape a
potentially violent situation. We discuss themes like the
predator mindset, being aware of your surroundings, and how
to deal with verbal and physical intimidation. You will be
shown some basic but effective ways to keep safe and look
at ways to fight back if you need to. You can try out the
techniques under the guidance of the instructor, or just
watch and make mental notes. It is up to you. We keep it
simple. There are no fancy techniques or hard to remember
moves. Learn to work with what you’ve got and use the
tools you already have to keep safe!
Who Can Take This Clinic?
This clinic is designed to meet the needs of older adults
who are looking to equip themselves with some practical,
effective self defence knowledge. Although you do not have
to be a senior to participate in this clinic, the age of
those who take this workshop typically ranges from 60-85.
This clinic has been attended by adults from 50-95 years
of age. We take in to account all levels of ability and believe
that everyone, regardless of age or physical limitations
can learn self defence.
